Operations roles at startups — fast-growing companies with messy data are always looking for organised people to help them sort it out. These roles often evolve into something broader over time.
Worth knowing: data entry is one of the few job types where your speed and accuracy genuinely matter. If you can type 60+ words per minute and maintain high accuracy, say so in your application. It's a specific, measurable skill that stands out.
What it pays and where it leads
Entry-level remote data entry typically pays $13-18 per hour. Specialised roles — medical data entry, legal document processing, financial data work — pay more and aren't significantly harder to get into once you have a few months of general experience.
The bigger opportunity is using a data entry role as a way into a company. People who are accurate, reliable, and proactive get noticed. Operations coordinator, admin assistant, CRM manager — these are all natural next steps that pay better and are more interesting, and data entry is a legitimate route to all of them.
